"... sudden illness
ends one career and leads to the renaissance
of another"

As a kid I was always interested in art, particularly sculpture. For several years I attended art classes at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston MA where I received my first exposure to sculpture under the instruction of Ralph Rosenthal. After high school I attended Boston University and studied sculpture. I graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture.

I worked as a professional caricature artist for 2 years. Trying to find a practical use for my talent, I went back to school and studied children's book illustration, graphic arts and industrial design, but I never found the same satisfaction in these pursuits that sculpting had provided. My career then took a turn and I worked for 15 years in the baking industry as a pastry chef, specializing in wedding cakes.

In 2005, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma which is a type of cancer that is found in the bone marrow. I have since undergone a stem cell transplant and, at present, I am in complete remission and doing excellently - thanks too many prayers, much encouragement and help from my family and friends and excellent doctors.

As a result, my great love for sculpting has found its avenue. I express this experience and others through the work that you see here and am a figure modeling instuctor at Stonybrook Fine Arts.

It is my goal that others will be as inspired to overcome obstacles and achieve goals of their own, just as I have been been able to do.
